Do you or your partner suffer from snoring? The team at Sydney Laser Dental Care are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of snoring and its associated conditions. The most common reason why people snore is the restriction in airway caused by the lower jaw (mandible) having moved in a backward direction during sleep. This causes the air moving in and out of our mouths to be turbulent resulting in the familiar snoring sound we hear.
As well as snoring, this restriction in airway flow may also result in a sleep condition known as sleep apnoea, where our bodies are starved of oxygen because of this airway restriction.
Symptoms and Treatment
Symptoms include sleepiness during the day, general fatigue and loss of concentration. We encourage our patients who presents with snoring conditions to also seek a sleep study to diagnosis this serious but often under diagnosed condition.
The treatment for snoring with or without an underlying sleep apnoea disorder involves a dental appliance which is custom made to each individual patient.
This dental appliance keeps the lower jaw in the correct forward position thus maintaining airway patency and eliminating snoring as well as treating any underlying sleep apnoea conditions that patients may have.
